We adeptly combine multiple skilled trades and advanced technology to boost your building’s durability, efficiency and indoor air quality.
Systems thinking is applied to durability, efficiency, and indoor air quality are at the core of our solutions.
Our tradespeople understand the goals of the project and provide quality workmanship.
A project manager provides a single point of accountability.
We work within the existing processes for property
management. We only focus on what we do best.
Air sealing should be at the core of any serious retrofit endeavor, including all turnovers and major renovations.
Uncontrolled air leakage through holes in your building envelope is a major source of of heat loss and discomfort. Worse, it can be a source of ingress for smoke, insects and moisture, either from outside or the neighbouring units.
We use a blower door to provide an objective measurement of how leaky a building envelope is and where it stands relative to best-in-class construction.
Most important, we use a blower door to determine the sources of air leakage so we can take targeted actions to tighten it up.
Cold air infiltrates a home in multiple ways.
There’s no single solution. We will use a variety of methods to address the large holes that we uncover, and advanced technology such as Aerobarrier, to address the multitude of small holes that add up to unwanted drafts, heat loss, and the infiltration of smoke.
If you seal it tight, then you need to ventilate it right.
We install energy recovery ventilators so introduce fresh, tempered air, while keeping the heat in.
Now you are in control of the air you breathe.
We re-test with the blower door to verify the results of our air sealing efforts. This work is completed by a registered energy advisor. We aim to get all our retrofits to ENERGYSTAR or Net Zero standards for air tightness.
Deep energy retrofits incorporate multiple energy efficiency and resilency measures as part of a turnover or renovation.
The retrofit element addresses the core performance of a home or building and the things we most want from it – health, comfort, affordability and durability.
An important part of our services during a turnover or renovation is repairing the building envelope to ensure the building stays dry and durable. This could include structural repair, foundation repair, and rewrapping the exterior.
Some of these issues come to light from our air sealing efforts.
Adding insulation and high performance doors and windows adds to the comfort and efficiency of a building, especially in cases where existing insulation and windows are way below current standards.
We examine the needs for these measures on a case by case basis, and consider the impact of these changes on the wall assembly as a whole.
Reducing your heating and cooling loads through a better quality envelope positions you to capture the full benefits of a heat pump.
Heat pumps can substantially improve the efficiency of your heating system, eliminate the need for window/portable air conditioning, and eliminate most of you building’s carbon footprint.
We ensure a heat pump retrofit is properly sized for your home or building.
Resiliency means to protect your home or building from the shock of major weather events.
We evaluate the risks to your structure, and take measures to reduce the impact of heavy rains and high winds.
We take a holistic view of your housing stock. We combine the viewpoints of engineers and experienced tradespeople. What you get are solutions rooted in sound building science and best practices.
We prepare applications for implementation funding. We coordinate all rebates on your behalf.
We lead a team of skilled tradespeople to ensure the work is executed on-plan. We integrate seamlessly with your property management process and can turnkey the entire renovation.
How does your unit track against its stated performance goals after the retrofit? We will dig into the data to answer that question.
